Speech Therapy

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. Speech therapy techniques are used to improve communication. These include articulation therapy, language intervention activities, and others depending on the type of speech or language disorder.  Speech therapy generally occurs in small group or one-on-one settings, depending on the speech disorder and the treatment plan and goals established by your therapist in collaboration with the parent/caregiver.

During speech therapy, the SLP may interact through talking and playing, and using books, pictures, and other objects as part of language intervention to help stimulate language development.  Your child’s therapist will model correct sounds and syllables during age-appropriate play to teach him/her how to make certain sounds. The therapist will provide individualized strategies and activities for your child that can be carried out at home to augment therapy sessions.
