Host an Interview for Gram
How to Play
Set the Stage: Pick 2–3 favorite toys to be "guests" on your child’s pretend talk show. Choose one toy to be the host, or your child can take on that role.
Interview Time: Encourage your child to ask and answer simple questions using their toy voices. You can model questions too:
“What’s your favorite food?”
“Where do you live?”
“What do you do for fun?”
3. Expand Responses: Help your child add details to their answers, or repeat answers using full sentences.
“Bunny likes carrots.” → “Bunny likes to eat crunchy carrots!” → “Bunny likes to eat crunch carrots for breakfast".”
4. Create a Story or Show: Once the interview is finished put on a short skit or story featuring the characters. Narrate or take turns coming up with the next part.
“Oh no! The toys are stuck in the toy box! What happens next?”
Ways to increase the challenge
Have your child write or draw a “script” or “TV guide”
Add in pretend commercials where they describe or persuade (great for describing and expressive language)
Introduce conflict and resolution in the story: “Oh no! The superhero lost their powers!”
Practice complex questions: “Why do you like playing outside?” or “How do you get to the park?”
Ways to decrease the challenge
Use picture cards with simple choices: “Does Teddy like apples or bananas?”
Model answers and encourage echoing
Keep it to just 1–2 toys and short responses
Model the first part of a sentence and provide time for the child to finish the statement: “Teddy has a blue ____ (scarf/hat/shoe).”
