How Our Pediatric Therapy Clinic Works: From Referral to Progress

At our pediatric outpatient clinic, we’re proud to offer Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy (ST), and Mental Health services to children and families across the Raleigh, Clayton, and Smithfield areas. Our goal is to make high-quality care accessible, collaborative, and focused on helping each child thrive.

If you’re new to therapy services, here’s what you can expect when working with our team.

Getting Started: Referrals Are Easy

We accept referrals in two ways:

From pediatricians or other healthcare providers when concerns are identified
Directly from parents — no doctor’s visit required to start the process

If you have questions about your child’s development, behavior, movement, communication, or emotional health, you can simply call our office to schedule an appointment. Our team will guide you through the next steps.

Intake Paperwork Comes First

Before scheduling an evaluation, we ask families to complete our intake documents.

These forms help us:

  • Understand your child’s strengths and challenges

  • Review medical and developmental history

  • Ensure we’re prepared to provide the best possible evaluation

Once paperwork is complete, we’ll move forward with scheduling.

Comprehensive Evaluations

Each child begins with a thorough evaluation lasting 1–2 hours, depending on the therapy service.

During the evaluation, our therapists will:

  • Assess your child’s current skills and needs

  • Observe functional abilities

  • Talk with you about your concerns and goals

Personalized Therapy Plans

After the evaluation:

Results determine recommended frequency, duration, and goals of therapy
The plan is sent to your child’s pediatrician for approval
We confirm services with your insurance or payer

Once both approvals are received, therapy can officially begin.

Ongoing Progress & Goal Reviews

We believe therapy should always be purposeful and measurable. That’s why we:

Review goals and progress every 6 months (or sooner if needed)
Adjust treatment plans as your child grows and improves
Collaborate with families to ensure therapy supports real-life success

Parent Involvement Matters

Your involvement is a key part of your child’s success!

We encourage parents to:

  • Observe sessions when appropriate

  • Ask questions and learn strategies

  • Practice skills at home

Each child receives a home exercise program (HEP) to reinforce progress between sessions. Consistent carryover helps children reach goals faster and build confidence.

Serving Families Across the Triangle

With convenient locations in Raleigh, Clayton, and Smithfield, we’re honored to support families throughout the region with compassionate, evidence-based care.
